Some answers to your questions about our little man ~and an update ~Looking for Autism MOM business owners

Richie had a fun time at home last weekend ! Last week I did a grand total of 1,000 miles of driving between getting him , visiting , and 2 doctor apts ! That's the Autism life !
The changes with his seizure medication seemed to have a pretty dramatic effect in decreasing his behaviors ! He was taking Kepra for at least 8 years which is known to cause bad behaviors but at the same time after the doctors tried so many different ones, it was the only one that worked . He recently did a 16 week wean from the Kepra and is almost done . At the same time they introduced a new medicine called Topamax and its working great so we are keeping our fingers crossed !
This week on the school front I have finally made tremendous progress with the IEP ! We did get it (although dated wrong lol) but new one will be here shortly. I can finally take a deep breath for a little bit for the very first time in a decade! Richie will be getting everything he needs !!! Thanks to the help of the BSEA and a wonderful woman I spoke with at the Federation yesterday!
Richie got his hair cut and went to the Barber ! He did a great job !
Throw back Thursday Pics, Richie was just a little over one years old above ! Below He was about 3 1/2 and the baby is my little Sky !
Questions I often get :
1. What types of medications is Richie taking ?
Richie is on several medications and we are always in the process of eliminating them when we can . From an Autism severe behavior point of view despite the possible dangers of some medications , the danger he causes to himself and others is much more significant .
Richie is on:
Topomax- for his seizures
Abilify and Guanfacine- for behaviors (these work quite well for him and he has zero side effects .
Levacarnitine- For his tummy (it's just a natural supplement)
Trazedone- For sleep
Most of these are given several times a day .
2. What is his diet like?
As of right now he is not on the Maria diet lol although we are slowly working our way back . The wonderful supervisor at the residence does an amazing job shopping for him , and although not always organic he eats tons of fruits, vegies, salads . He eats the snacks I bring him . He only eats whole grain pastas and breads . No Red meat . He has actually helped make the whole house a little healthier ! Lots of work to slowly be done but it's going rather well!
